Introduction:
The word Bollywood is
known for the Indian film industry for decades. There was only one cinema known
as Hollywood prior to Bollywood which referred to the English/ American movies.
The Hollywood was named for the small district in Los Angeles. The old film
making studios were situated there. Since the Indian film industry has started
from the city of Bombay that is why the Indian Film industry is known as
Bollywood. Bollywood is not the whole film industry as there are other films
are being made throughout the India in different languages. But as the Hindi
films originated from Bombay, that is why the Hindi/ Indian cinema has been
flourished with the name of Bollywood globally.
The first Indian film was
made in the year 1913 with the name of Raja Harishchandra. It was the silent
movie which was written, directed and produced by Dadasaheb Phalke which was
based on the Ramayan and Mahabharta which are the religious epics regarding
Hindu religion. From 1913 onwards Bollywood has made its strong footings in the
field of movie making with having Hollywood as their benchmark. Indian Cinema
has seen the downfall of World War II and the fight for Independence. But the
passion for film making has never declined. Even in those dreadful days, the
film producers of India have worked and used the social and ethical issues as
the influential source to motivate Hindus to fight for their rights.
Hollywood VS Bollywood
Globalization is a
process that has removed the geographical barriers and “the process of
globalization has been started from the year 1970 (Chanda, yaleglobal). The
pace with which Bollywood is working no doubt one day will come it will move ahead
from Hollywood. The speed they are following in the expansion with the effects,
graphics, the story line, the Masala movies, the Romantic movies, the
influential and heart touching songs and much more is immaculate and
quintessential picturization that influences all the audience in the world. The
beautiful melodies are loved by everyone and every community whether they
understand the Hindi Language or not. The movies are now being released all
around the globe, with subtitles even with the English dubbing.
Even the Indian Cinema
has moved ahead with the English movies. The Hollywood has started making English
movies with the Indian actors and actresses. This is a great step which will
lead them in the long run.
If we see Hollywood no
doubt they are globally popular in terms of their beautiful actors and
actresses, special effects, the outstanding HD graphics, the 3D technology. But
the movies are only made in English and cannot be understood by many
communities and people living around the world. Where the Indian cinema has
crossed this border by making English and Hindi movies both.
Indian Economy and Bollywood:
Bollywood movies are
expanding with a very high pace in terms of making money and spending money.
The films are becoming big budget movies and being released in the Cinema
houses the world over. This is enhancing the economic value of India the world
over.
